Most likely cause: obstructed sky view or inactive radio
Satellite radios need a clear line of sight to the sky. Tunnels, parking garages, dense tree cover, and tall buildings can all block the signal.1
Move to an open area
Drive to a location with a clear view of the sky, away from tall buildings, trees, or covered structures.
2
Wait 1 to 2 minutes
Leave the radio tuned to a SiriusXM channel and wait up to two minutes for the signal to lock in.
3
Refresh your signal online
If the radio is still not active, visit siriusxm.com/refresh and follow the instructions to send a fresh activation signal. You will need your Radio ID or ESN, which you can find by tuning to channel 0 or 1 on most radios.
Other causes and fixes

This usually means the antenna cable is loose, damaged, or disconnected.
- Check that the antenna cable is firmly connected to the radio or tuner.
- Inspect the antenna for visible damage, cracks, or wear.
- Make sure the antenna is mounted with a clear view of the sky, not inside the vehicle or under metal.
Subscription Updated message
Subscription Updated message
Your subscription may have changed or expired. Tune to channel 1 or visit your online account to confirm your current plan and channel lineup. If your plan was recently updated, turn the radio off and back on, then wait up to two minutes.
Some channels are missing
Some channels are missing
- Confirm the channel is included in your current plan; not all channels are available on every subscription tier.
- Try tuning directly to the channel number rather than using a preset.
- Refresh your signal at siriusxm.com/refresh to make sure your radio has the latest channel map.
Signal cuts in and out
Signal cuts in and out
- Check for intermittent obstructions such as heavy tree cover, bridges, or urban canyons.
- Ensure the antenna is not partially hidden by roof racks, cargo boxes, or magnetic mounts that have shifted.
